HIV/AIDS TI Core Composite Project

According to recent study, HIV prevalence in north-eastern states is in up trending mode, though the ratio is minimal. So HIV/ AIDS, is an issue of growing concern and its spread is an impact of unsafe sexual practice and drug use. Like as other districts of Tripura, HIV prevalence is also witnessed in Dhalai district also. However, all possible factors are existed in Dhalai district that could trigger the spread of HIV infection both in horizontal & vertical manner.
Intending to prevent & control the HIV among the marginalized population like FSW targeted intervention program has been

implemented by Prabaha Dhalai through adopting a comprehensive strategic approach according to NACO guidelines since 2007. During the implementation of the project, Prabaha Dhala has given prior focus to bring a behavioral impact among the target population views, it is important to bring behavior change of HRGs, otherwise, the objective of TI could be In analytic results in vain to achieve the anticipated outcome. Thus organization has taken up a comprehensive strategic approach by which a visible change in attitude towards TI is expected:

  • Strengthening peer-led intervention to reach out to unreached areas.
  • Increase risk perception among HRGs.
  • Strengthening linkage & referral services (STI management, HIV screening, ART linkage).

HIV/AIDS Exclusive IDU TI Project (PADAKSHEP)

prabaha Dhalai has been working on HIV/AIDS T.I (exclusive) IDU,s project in our Dhalai at LTV subdivision since 00/00/2019 with a aim to protect all the IDUs from infection of HIV/AIDS . Actually IDUs are a third HRG for which targeted interventions are of critical importance. HIV is highly transmissible through the sharing of needles and other injection equipment, so it can spread very rapidly within networks of IDUs who share injecting equipment with each other. Once HIV prevalence is high in the IDU population, it can expand quickly into their sexual networks.

It is important to recognize that like sexual transmission of HIV, HIV is essentially preventable among IDUs and their sex partners too. Effective interventions that are implemented early (HIV prevalence <5% among the IDUs) are most effective in halting the spread of HIV epidemic among the IDUs. HIV interventions targeting the majority of the injecting drug users can stabilize and even reverse the escalating HIV epidemic among IDUs. HIV positive IDUs receiving opioid substitution treatment (OST) not only helps them to avoid injecting but also to adhere to anti-retroviral treatment (ART) as well as other treatments.
